So I just got and set up my new XP3. Now the box comes with two filter media pieces, which is fine with me, and all the parts are in there. But the manual says something about having multiple zorb-chem packets or whatever. And sure enough on the packet it says for up to 55g. Well, my tank is 150g and are they expecting me to buy another 2-3 packets or do I have this all wrong; someone help?

Tbh, I only use carbon or chem zorb in the hotter months for the smell, but normally I only use mechanical, and bio filtration. I think you would have to buy additional packs.

XP3 is an awsome filter..........As for the filter media goes....Skies the limit in choices...At one time, I filled every chamber with crushed coral.........I feel the best combo is filling every chamber with ceramic rings......If there is any trouble with mechanical filtration, get one or two Aqua Clear filters...........The Aqua Clear hang-on-back(HOB) filter is simple and does its job polishing the water clean from any major, and fine, waste..........This with the XP3 working the biological growth, you got yourself an awsome filter system...........The only next step now is building or buying or your own wet/dry filter system.....................

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I'll probably buy some more bio-chem zorbs and ceramic rings. But what about the wet/dry filter, why would I need one?

I think the Rena's are a nickle and dime you type filter.

I have an XP3 as well and I'd suggest finding the cheapest bio media to fill the remaining space. The Rena ceramic rings are kind of pricey.

That's what I thought! I saw them at the pet store for $27! And they "claimed" to not need to ever be replaced, but that sounded wrong to me...
