I have both filters. I know the Rena XP3 cost a lot more than the Aquaclear 110. But in your opinion, which one is better?

The reason why I ask this is because I am thinking about selling one of my Rena XP3s and getting an Aquaclear 110 HOB to replace it. Just thinking now thou.

There is a CK code off of Dr Smith and Foster for a 120$ XP3... I have a XP3 and AC50's/110's. They are all great filters and depending on your set up.

What kind of tank do you have? XP3 are easier to clean IMO and IME, very simple disconnect from the canister... With an AC HOB you'll have to shut it off and pull out the media (which could be tough if it's on a big tank that you'll have to reach around on)

Had a bad experience once with an AC50 on a tank (user error of course) I picked up the basket without turning off the filter and everything from a months worth of crap and what not got pushed into the tank :irked: This was years ago of course lol

Guess it's down to users preference and your set up...

I've always been more of a canister kinda guy (fluval fx5, 405, 305, etc) but i recently just bought two ac 70s for 19.99 new and am gonna give em a shot on my 125. Just couldn't beat the price. good luck with which ever one you decide to go with. I've only heard good things bout aquaclear....

Neither is better, they both have there advantages depending on what you want. If you want better use them together as they compliment each other very well

That's like asking "which is better a sedan or a pick up truck?"

Either one is "better" depending on what your goal is...

Each one has advantages the other does not... so the one that has the advatages that you put a higher priority on is "better" (for you... on this tank... at this time...)

Look in the market place section. No code...its a special...they come with out a box or biomax but they are 19.99 and you can get biomax cheap. Free shipping on orders over 75$ and NANOREEF code gets you another 10% off.
