Ok, I just finished adding water to my tank and I set up my XP3 but the filter part doesn't seem to be working. I bought the filter used off another member so I don't have any instructions so I'm lost. I filled up the filter with water, plugged in the top, I have the two outlets in the tank but it only appears that the one outlet that puts water back into the tank is really working. I put my hand in front of the outlet that sucks the water out to be filtered and I can't feel anything, and I see little particles just slowly floating past it. Did I do something wrong when I set it up?

i know when i first filled mine up it was empty when i turned it on. leave the top unlatched and prime though the top part. screw the black cap back on then close the latch. let it fill then sit for a minute the plug it in

One thing to check is to see if the ring on the top tray inside the canister is facing up. I've put mine together where the ring was facing into the tray and it wouldn't seal against the lid (motor). If that's good, then make sure the canister is full and un plugged. Take the cap off of the intake line and fill it. Once it gets to the top put the cap back on and plug it in. At this point it should work, but every once in a while shake the canister to get any air that might be in it out.

So I should dump all the water out of the filter? Then pour water down the tube with the filter inlet and fill it up and then latch it and turn it on?

You shouldn't have to empty it. The goal is to get all of the air out of the system. There is a few ways to do that. Once you figure out what works best for you then you're in good shape.

make sure it no air in there.....as you can see it was still running when you pick it up. did you fill up the water and follow what i told you? If you still have a problem feel free to call me. PM me for my number, i gladly will help you out.

When you feel the water coming out of the spray bar (or powerjet, which ever one you are using) does it feel like a decent flow? Your filter could be working just fine. You aren't going to feel very strong suction when you put your hand against the intake.

Sticky it's working just fine, it's more of me being a fool than anything. The tank looks great in the new house, the stand even matches the hardwood floors. I am very excited to have finally gotten it up and running, now it's just time to add some fish.

Thanks to everyone for the help, I filled up the tube with some water and then turned the filter back on. I watched it for a few minutes and saw it was sucking up stuff as it got close to it, so I assume all is well. It's been going for about an hour and the tank is starting to look better, not as much stuff floating around. I appreciate the help from everyone, good to see you are all so helpful.

Welcome to MFK:)

Make sure it run for a few week then test your water before you add any fish that you keeping. Also get some cheap tetra or some other fish and put it in there to speed up the cycle.

Im glad you like the set up!...I do to, especially the stand. You don't see those kind of stand any where.
