I seen an ad on Craigslist and somebody was selling there rena xp3 and fluval 405 for 25 bucks each. i would get both but the only problem is i only have enough cash right now for one , which one should i get? which is a better filter ? Its going in my 60 gallon btw

rena filters suck imo they over rate them......on the box it has the flow rate, but thats not the flow rate for a filter with the pads and media in it. Like the xp4 is supposed to be enough for a 265gal.....I didnt feel like it was enough for my lightly stocked 180gal.

I use Rena filters on 3 aquariums, currently. I got my 1st XP two years ago and I've never had an issue.

I'd get both for $25 lol. I agree that the Rena seem to be the better of the two though. Every company over-rates their filters capacity and flow rate.

i think im going to go with the fluval since i had a rena xp3 before and ive never owned a fluval and if i dont like it i can always sell it and make my money back

I have a 405 that's been running for 3 years now with no problem. Still running strong with no leak(knock on wood).... 50 bucks for two filters is really cheap, I'll get both.

I have been using xp3's for years, I have 2 on each of my tanks. 125 & 150. I never had much of a problem I could not fix.
