When I first got my Rena cannister filter last year, the output flow rate was very strong. I could see the water pushing out of the spray bar. Now, after about a year, the flow rate is very weak. Water is barely coming out of the spray bar. I have biomax on all trays. What can I check for to increase the output flow rate?

How often are you cleaning out the filter? After a while tubes get plugged up and need cleaning along with the impeller.

Your going to have to clean it. I would have this happen alll the time until I got Sponge flters to place inplace of the intake. Here is what I attached. They have been going strong for 9months and no cleaning. You will have to click on the actual image to see it.

This adds another type of filtration and honestly I think it beats hooking up an air pump to a sponge filter. Much better results.:naughty:

Clean the propellar.............Or, build a DIY wet/dry filter..............

Clean the filter out completely, I have numerous rena's and they all get thoroughly cleaned ever couple months. I am surprised you have not lost any fish

Not only should you clean the impeller and impellar housing but also check the strainer. Cleaning the hoses may make a slight difference, but these two places are the major factors. Also check to ensure that the pad closest to the filter return hose is not clogged.

I have the xp3 and I gotta try the sponge filter on the intake. looks like a good idea. I clean mine 3 times a year
