I wanna buy a rena xp2 but i have some questions before i buy one over the internet.......What is included with the rena xp2 such as filter media? and what filter media will i have to replace to maintain my xp2?

I have the xp3 and I dont care to much for it honestly, it comes with no media, you will have to purchase the media yourself, if I remember right it comes with a zorb and pads, the cost of maintence to replace mine is about 50.00 each time ..... and the flow is not as good as I thought it would be,........ from what I have looked at to replace that filter / use it for back up, I would rather have gotten a pond filter plus its cheaper & bigger ... not sure what size tank you have, but its def not big enough for mine, I wish I would have went with my gut instinct instead of what the guy told me at tropical world of pets......

good luck

I have an XP3 and love it. I spend about .50 every time I change the media. The sponges that come with it are... sponges so you don't have to replace them... just clean it out. I have 2 baskets of that and 1 of SeaChem Matrix (when you compare dollars spent to square footage, this stuff rocks) and then some filter floss in the last section. The only thing I replace is filter floss. At 3.50 for 6-8 months worth, I can live with it.

I have an XP1 on a 30g, and an XP3 on a 55g. I used to have one on a 75g (no plants) and a small AC and my friend has one on a 90g (planted) with another power head to up water movement. All tanks run fantastically.

i have an xp3 and a xp4 and i love them, they are quiet and run nice. IMO you dont buy a filter for high flow, you buy it filter your water and do it well. if you are looking for water movement just buy a power head.

I also have an XP3 and I like it alot. Maintenance involves rinsing the coarse pads and bio media, and maybe replacing the polishing pad.

I never had a problem with the flow.

Its not as quiet as my Eheim, but for the money, I believe its a great deal.

I have an Xp1, Xp2 and 2x Xp3.

Each has a little different mix of stuff, all work great though.

The last XP3 I bought came with 4 sponges (2 coarse, 2 fine) and 10 Bio Chem stars, I never got these before. Also they include a bag of carbon stuff that I don't use.

If you don't have much spare cash for media just grab a couple packs of Scrubbies. They will do the job.

I will throw in my motion for XPs as well. I have an XP2 and an XP3. I love them both. easy to maintain and you don't have to replace the filter media except for the filter floss.

I have two Rena xp 3's. I love them. So easy to clean. One is on my 200 gal pond, the other is on a 96 gal tank. I discovered that if you let the sponge filters dry out completly, when clogged, you can then squeeze them and break up the crap inside. I also vaccuum them. THis will improve your output flow. Buy an extra set and check it out. It is amazing how much comes out of a sponge when dry.
