Looking to switch some filters around to help and benefit our tank with a bunch of Kribensis and Festae baby fish. I have access to a Fluval 405 and a Rena (aka filstar) XP3. Currently on the 125g tank there is just one Rena XP4 pushing about 400/gph. But looking to add one of the 2 filters. And soon I will be adding a UV Sterilizer. But for now. Anyone have any opinion on the 2 canisters? I think the Rena xp3 has more surface area on there filter floss pads. And Fluval has some odd vertical narrow foam pads and then 4 small stacked containers.

What do ya'll think?

Im going to have the Rana xp4 and one of the 2 guys on the Festae tank. The F405 and XP3 has only a 10/gph difference.

Both are good filters and get the job done.I have always used Fluval cans and I really like them.I myself would get the 405 but what are the prices of the 405 and the XP3?

I have both and I prefer the rena

I've had both and prefer rena as well. I had problems with my 405 leaking so I removed it from my tank and bought another rena.

Thanks guys. Ill leave the Fluval 405 on my wifes 75g. I have a 125g tank that has 2 Rena xp3's but there are just small baby convicts and JD in that tank. And for mechanical filtration Ill add a Marineland Penguin 350 that is missing everything but the filter pads I buy for it. LOL I think my F1 Festae tank need the 2 canisters and soon a $50 green machine UV internal filter or one of them longer $180 UV sterilizers. I dont care about algae as it has its benefits and its not hard to clean. But I want to keep my festes healthy and happy.

Thank you all everyone for your opinions. The Rena XP3 has like 350/gph and the XP4 has like 450/gph. So I think for now. as my 20 festae grow out of the 125g tank, a total of 800 total gph on each side of the tank being sucked and a internal UV or a DIY portable UV Sterilizer. I think that will make a healthy tank.

 THANK YOU ALL
