Virginians want to rename the Cownose Ray to the Cheasapeak Ray so that it would be more appealing on menus. I'm neither for or against, just sounds crazy.

Crazy and narrow minded. Maybe if they were ONLY found there... but cownose range all the way down to South America... and there are three species of them (two in the Pacific). Would those change as well!?
And think of all the zoo signs that would have to change! LOL. Maybe they'd pay for it with the extra $$ from the increase in menu sales.

I agree with Matt (Zoodiver) on this. It would only make some sense - if the Virginia population was a distinct species or sub-species of Cownose Ray.
Other wise -it's just crazy, and most likely will only be a name that Virginians use.
