My question is can you convert a reptile tank into a fish aquarium? Due to chemical reactions from the reptiles it cant be done Or the intensive cleaning of tank to convert into fish would not be worth time and money?
Glass in a reptile tank is usually much thinner than in a fish tank/ aquarium and it is usually just standard window pane glass. The silicone is also sometimes not applied in such a way to become water tight under that much pressure. Reptile tanks also are designed with reptiles in mind not fish so sometimes there is a hole in the bottom that can be plugged or unplugged in reptile tanks for easy Cleaning and what not. Reptile tanks over 30 gallons large should not be used in any fashion to hold water because they just aren't sturdy enough it's not worth chancing it.Yes you can convert a reptile tank for a fish tank but I would only ideally do it to no bigger than a 20 gallon. I hate to burst your bubble but it's worth your money and time just to buy an aquarium made for the use of fish or you will be doing something risky that would be a ticking time bomb.
Only if it was an aquarium for fish in the first place then you can clean it up and use for fish but if it was made entirely for reptiles then you can't use it no matter how clean it is.
