guys i got a 125 gallon tank an the end piece of glass has a crack in it. i want to know can i replace this end piece of glass without haveing to take the whole tank apart

You would have to just put a replacement panel on the inside or outside of the tank. If you were closer, I would give you a replacement side panel off my busted 125.

so dont remove it. an replace the whole panel is not a good idea i can get this tank for 50 or 75 bucks an i figured it would be a good learning experience an if i break it it wouldnt be that big of a loss

The glass will be tough to dig out. Just covering the glass with another piece would be easier. If it's a show tank it might not look as nice but that would be a great grow out tank!

To dig it out get a box of straight edge razors and a vice grip pliers. Use that combo to get the corner of the razor between the two pieces of glass. Work from the out side then from the inside. Keep cutting at it till the glass is free. The top plastic may need to be removed and that is almost impossible with out breaking. Good luck man! I have the bottom broken out on mine, I'm saving it for a possible 6'X6' build. Just looking for another broken 125 (wink)

$50 to $75 bucks? You sure you have a 125?

Some feel that you can replace just one panel, but then you would have to worry about the new silicone bonding to the old silicone. There is risk involved.

Also, for tearing down a tank, guitar string works well for slicing through the seams.

yeah im sure its a 125 the woman said the only reason she was selling it she bought a new one an was useing it as a lanted tank an said she dont need or want it anymore. but pharro if ya want you can stick that end piecein a box with some shipping peanuts an send it to me. i got a 120 the other week for 50 bucks an all it need was a good cleaning an filtration for it. im going this weekend to pick a 125 up this friday to go in my living room. was goin to put the 4 foot 120 in the living room but found this 6 foot 125 for a 100 an so now im going to put the 120 in my bedroom. an also this is two diff 125 im talking about the on for a 100 has no cracks an the one for 50-75 has the crack. so if i put a new piece on it how do i go about siliconeing it in.

I think I would glue it to the inside. First I would trim back the existing silicon on the inside of the broken piece of glass only. You want the new piece of glass to fit right next to the old piece of glass, the tighter the fit the better Then I would stand the tank on its end so the broken side is down. Use a lot of silicon 1 and spread it evenly on the broken piece of glass. Then put the new piece of glass right on top of it. Weigh it down with something to squeeze out all the air and wipe it clean. Use your finger and run it around the edges to smooth out and pick up all the extra glue. You want a nice even bead around the edge, that's critical for leaks. The rest of the glue is just to support the old piece of glass. You may have some bubbles between the two pieces of glass but that's not a big deal as long as the edges don't have the air bubbles.
