I'm so ignorant, I don't even know what to call it. My 120G was aquired used, and has an "all glass" top that is in sections. It HAD a brown connector thingy that acts like an elbow and allows the lid to be raised and lowered and CONNECTED to the adjacent piece (which is not how it is right now. What a pain!). I happily bought more of the bendy stuff, but have NO IDEA how to get the old, dea, separated, glued on connector stuff OFF. Anybody know what to do? Thanks a bunch from me and all the denizens of my tank....:)

plastic hinge?

without a pic I hope this is what you are talking about.

I use a razor knife (heavy duty shop/rug cutter). slide between the glass and plastic to cut glue/silicone. Cut away from you and don't apply to much pressure to the glass.

Use silicone to attach the new piece.

Hiya, and thanks! Don't have picture capability yet, so can't confirm absolutely, but I'm sure we're talking about the same thing, and I'll DEFINITELY give it a try.

None of my glass top have silicone on or in the hinge. They slide in and out. I stepped on 1 the day I bought it and had to repair it. To get it on, just a tip, start at the corner put it all the way on the glass and lower the other half and it will slide right together...

I would also wear heavy gloves if you don't have much experience with glass....

Again, thanks all. Don't have much experience with glass, so the gloves are a good idea. When I'd tried to pull the old hinges off, nothing moved. So either silicon is, in fact, in place, or I'm just not strong enough to get the critter off. So using a big knife and cutting it off looks like my task in the near future (after putting up halloween decorations and my latest tank crisis....)
