Just curious do you replace a fish that dies with that same type of fish?

My JD was killed by my jardini. All my fish keeping came to a head that day because my JD started my tanks and i truly loved that fish. I was actually thinking about stopping altogether. I miss Boxer (my JD) but i dont know if i could ever think about buying another JD. I have never bought the same type of fish to replace a dead one. I just stop keeping that species.

It depends on the fish that die;

I had two Clown Loaches die today, one I witnessed, he wouldn't leave my Oscar along. 5" Clown Loach pissing off a 13" Oscar, kinda had it coming. The Oscars also had a bit of a scuffle today, they knocked the end off my filter intake, this is where my second 6" dead Clown Loach was found. My brother found it, I was a work.
I will replace them, but not with ones the same size, I will probably buy 6 more, smaller ones and grow them to 5" then add them to my tank, that will make 10 all up.

I lost my GT pair a few weeks ago(9.5" Silver male and 6" Gold female), they will not be replaced, they can not be replaced in my mind.

My rule used to be that no fish was replaced unless the cause of death was known. Otherwise one dies of unknown causes, whatever killed that one isn't fixed and the next one dies too.

On fish that I've kept longterm like my featherfins and clown plecos...I think yes when they die, I will never keep them again.

If it died because it was fighting with the other fish then no. If it died because of an unknown reason...still no

If it died of age replace it with the same fish.

would u seperate the new jd and jar? what else is in the tank

I'm replacing my Royal Pleco. Out of the pleco's I have owned, I like my Royal the most. It got killed a few days ago by my redheaded cichlid (synspillum). The Redhead cichlid has a new home at the lfs. The redhead looked cool, but I liked my Royal Pleco better. I should be getting my Royal this week.

No more Jar. Killed...8" Salvini, 6" Vieja Argentea, 8" Parachromis Loisselli, 5" Jewel Fish, 6" 5 spot Jewel, countless plecos, a few CL's and Finally my JD was the last straw.

I know this might look insane but I have never actually itemized his victims and reading this it really hurts. I grew all these fish from about 1"-1.5". I havent replaced any but I really considered the Argentea.
