How often if at all do you replace your bio media ehem pro etc? I just piked up some cell pore i thought all you had to do is rinse it recommends replacement every 12 months.

I personally don't change my bio media, bio wheels, anything. They tell you to replace it every so often so they can sell you some more.

/\ I agree. A quick rinse and you are good. I have replaced sponges because they were falling apart but I mostly just rinse those as well.

I've heard that instead of replacing the Eheim Substrat Pro, that you can remove 1/3 of it & boil it to remove the accumulated gunk that fills the pores. I haven't tried it yet as I need to buy some additional media so I can rotate the cleaning of it. This procedure was recommended on a few sites but I don't know if it actually works as suggested.

Its not entirly a market ploy.

Ceramic media can decay over time so these pore can become the surface instead.

Personally, this is how I look at it, if your water stats are still good, then don't replace the media. A light rinse is usually all you need.
