Hey , I just got a 8x4x2 and it has side overflows. I really want to drill the bottom and make a weir. How hard is it to replace the 2 side panels of glass. I don't want to plug the bulkheads as its a display tank in the house. Or would it just be easier to sell the tank and get one made to my specs lol ?

You don't need to drill the bottom to make weirs, they work just as well on side drilled tanks.
They can be as simple and obvious, or camouflaged and complicated as you need.
Below is a simple one that connects to a side drilled tank, made from PVC.

I prefer side drilled tanks anyway, because with bottom drilled you are either going to take up more tank space with the boxed in weir, or use a standpipe.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention I need it to be aesthetic as its in the house . So I'd like to have all the plumbing "hidden". I agree side overflows are better .
