I have never attempted to replace the silicone in a glass aqauarium and i was wondering if you can replace the inner bead of silicone without having to replace the actuall bead holding the glass together. Is there a company out there that does this or is it easy to do yourself? If there is another thread out there on MFK let me know what i missed. I figure there has to be a way to remove the silicone inside the tank without having to take it all out and start from scratch. Thanks for the help.

In theory you can scrape out the inner silicone, wipe it down with an astringent that will help clean off the remaining residue (like vinegar) and apply the new silicone. This can work if the silicone bonding each pane of glass (in the seams) is still in tact because that is what helps hold the tank together. In internal silicone seals the tank as well as offers some support from twisting, etc. You will have to remove all silicone though, as silicone doesnt cure well to old silicone and it will inevitably fail. I'm sure there are companies out there that will do this, but I dont know how expensive that would be.

That's what "resealing" the tank is. Just replacing the inside sstuff. Google resealing the tank. Essentially its just using acetone and a razor to cut and rubbing off the old silicone. Let it dry tthen apply new stuff and let dry/cure for a week. It's only like $20 for silicone and acetone. You could ask your lfs if they make tanks to do it but they'll charge up the butt for labour

Thanks for the replies. The seal in the seam looks pretty good. i'm just concerned with the rough looking outer seam.
