The Real Norcal
My LFS has a wild caught silver aro somwhere between 8-10" and they are asking $100 for it,but I think I can get it for maybe a little less, like $90.

Does that sound reasonable?I don't know what the price difference is between wild caught and farm raised aro's but my other silver was like $30 when it was 5"..It wasnt sold to me as wild caught,I dunno...

Do you guys think a 8-10" WC aro will be okay with my 6-7" Lei?The lei is arowana friendly already, having lived with my silver from the time it was 5" to the time it was 12".

Just trying to get some opinions, thanks in advance.;)

I personally wouldn't.

I think the chances of it not working are higher than it being a success.

If you really want to give it a go make sure you are able to monitor the fish and have a tank on standby if you need to move one.

A lot of the leichardti I have seen will not tolerate any other arowana. Whether it be of its own kind or a different specie. This applies to fish at juvenile and adult stages.

Your leichardti might have been alright with the other arowana. But IMO it would have been just a matter of time before fighting started.

listen to steve. i've tried to house a silver with my lei for over 2 months now and jus gave up. my lei is calm n tame towards other tankmates. jus not fish that look similiar in shape/size/color.

i tried atleast 6 different times for different amounts of time over the 2 month period. it was a no go dude.

in the end, a lei gets crazy anyway. i think 1 lei to a tank is more then enough. they need space for darting around n spazzing.

alright well,I'll probably save my $$ then.So you guys don't think it matters if he was fine with the other silver? They swam everywhere together, the Lei almost seemsed to use the silver for cover.

mine looked like that to. swam close n he followed the silver everywhere. then when ur not looking, CHOMP.

u can try it. it might work it might not. but more then likely not.

i whould try...;)

The old silver is dead,it jumped out.

I had introduced the lei to the tank when the silver was about 7" and the lei was about 4",now the lei is about 6-7" and the silver that just jumped out was about 10-12".

The silver that I was thinking about replacing the old one with is very similar in size, maybe 10" or so but it is being sold as "wild caught" and I don't know what that means as far as its personality or price tag goes,But they are asking $100 for it,which I didnt know if thats okay for a WC silver or no...

So far two people say dont do it,price tag aside.

So thats the 411 on my aro situation sorry for any confusion.

even tho, price is kinda over priced. but you ever think the old one jumped ship cuz the lei coulda been chasing it?

Honestly no,I watch my tank a whole lot, possibly abnormaly so (we have a T.V.,but no cable or satelite, the T.V. is there for the occasional rented movie).

I don't see why they would limit their aggression to only when I'm not home, and I figure I would see signs of nipped fins on my silver.

My silver was just a jumper,he had done it twice before during water change and he just didnt make the third jump.Partially my fault I know but we all make mistakes.:(

What do you guys think the odds are of the LFS owner agreeing to let me bring the silver back if they start fighting?I am a fairly regular cusomer, and actually just a purchased my entire 250 gallon setup there.....

I would give it a try then.....just an idea.....:naughty:
