i have had a albino sailfin pleco for 8 years it grew to 16 inches and i liked it so much i named it " titch " when he died last week i was devastated after digging a hole for him to go in i put titch in a box and filled the hole in now im looking for a replacement. i would like something that will keep my tank clean but not grow so large if necessary i will get a few new ones to share the work load.

what other species are in the tank to start off with? what do you feed em? its better idea to do same diet philosophy

in the tank there is:
2 keyhole cichlids
2 bosemani rainbows
1 green severum
1 blue acara
1 featherfyn synodontis
1 senegal bircher
tank is 566 litres 5ft x 2ft x 2ft

That's a good sized tank for a Royal-which happen to be my all-time favorite Plec :-) But the L190 Royal with the red eyes can get to 18" although it would take it several years to get that big. The L191 Royals without the red eyes are called Dull-Eyed Royal or Broken Line Royal. They've got green & black stripes and they're awesome, pretty, super hardy, have funny personalites and only get to 9-10" max after several years. I've got 4 Royals and I've found them to be every bit as hardy as any common I've known. I can't say enough good things about Royals. The one I've had the longest (an L191) will park himself front and center in the Plec tank right at 10:00. That fish knows it's time to eat at 10 PM & is tired of waiting lol. Amazing.

thank twisted penguin i will definitely consider a royal with out red eyes is that right
Yep :-) Their L number is L191. Here's mine, they really are cool looking. Big old broad heads. And don't forget-most all the fancy Plecs are wild-caught so put whichever one you get through a couple treatments of PraziPro or something similar while he's in quarrantine.
