Okay, so I picked up this 135 gallon tank 2 days ago. Was a pain getting the monster out of the truck. LOL I bought it from a guy who didn't want to repair it for $65.
I plan to reseal it, but the split in the trim has me worried. I have thought I could wood glue and nail it back together, but under the kind of pressure it will be when full, I don't know if the repaired trim could tolerate it. I know I can order new trim for the tank, but I am wondering if I can hand build new trim? My idea is to use 1x3 pieces of wood around the top outside of the tank and use 3 1x2 wood pieces across the top as bracers. I would have about 2" of the 1x3 contacting the glass and the top 3/4" above the glass where I could screw the 1x2 segments to. Would this work? And if so, what could I do in a similar fashion on the bottom that would match the top style wise, but still be safe to use and serve its intended purpose of adding structure to the tank?
