I went to Petco looking to see if they have sand for a freshwater aquarium. The salesperson said that he's had people use Repti-Sand. Has anyone ever tried it? Is it good for the filter? I know that it's really fine sand, so yeah...

Play sand is a lot cheaper unless your looking for a different color like the red brick rep sand.
all sand is bad for a filter that has the impeller/motor on the bottom.
the rena xp3 works awesome with sand, don't have to worry
about sucking sand in it, the motor and impeller is on the top and
the sand stays on the bottom.
