Reptile heat wave lamps, does anybody use them.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ceramic heat emitters rock...they last a LONG time and heat enclosures very well. I have one that is over 3 years old and still going strong.

Keep in mind, they do run VERY hot, to the point that touching the metal dome will probably burn you. Given that, they absolutely need to be controlled by a thermostat, rheostat, or dimmer.

Heres a picture of the product.

If it is on a CHE, I would put it on a thermostat. Thermostats don't work well with light bulbs, but it work wonders for heat emitters and radiators.

i agree if you plane to use that get a thermostat so you can monitor how much heat is being given off...especially since your tortoise enclosure is near a readiator for heat...you dont want to cook your herman's :)

It isn't going to be near a radiator, it was there just while we set the cage up, it has been moved now.

We started using them a while back and like them really well. Just remember that you can't tell by looking if they are on. Found that out the hard way.
