could i put a reptile heating pad under my tank to warm up the water? or would it get to hot and boil my fish?

Howdy,

I honestly don't get why you'd want to do that. There are too many factors that could cause malfunction:
1) weight of aquarium could damages internal parts
2) is it truely 100% water proof?
3) if it breaks you'd have to empty out the tank to replace it
to just name the top three I can come up with.

An aquarium heater isn't all that expensive.

I would not use it for a tank, unless it is wide enough to cover the tank bottm completly it will cause stress lines an d all that wieght is asking for a cracked tank bottom.
I used a large one, 2 1/2'x 4' under a indoor above ground pond but that had a flexible liner and an inch of sand between the pad and the liner, it was also on a concrete floor in a garage. The pad was given to me and had a rheostat on the power cord for temperature adjustment. It worked well but is not something I would recomend.

You'll be in big trouble if water (for whatever reason) leaks to the heater.

Reptile heaters are not made to have any contact with water, and you take the risk of:

- breaking your glass
-electrocution (to you and/or your fish)
-fire
-burning your electrical outlet

no, the kind i have is about as thick s a baseball card. i have an angle iron stand so i was just gonna tape the heating pad to the bottom

DONT DO IT

I would not use a pad i kept several retile tanks and have had overheating experiances with pads the same will probably happen with your fish tank and as noted already they are not water proof FNH........
