They had another reptile swap today. It was better than last time. I saw tons of alligators, dwarf caiman, piebald ball python, striped boas, ally snapping turtles, some giant musk turtle pairs, some albino soft shells, v. albigularis, v. rudicollis, and many others. The mata mata from the last one was still there for sale ($275). I was real close to buying it again, but right as I was about to throw down the cash, I got a lead on 2 FRT's. A turtle guy there said there was some arachnid guy with 2 of them earlier in the morining, but left like 20 minutes after he set them out. I got his name and number, so I might try calling him tomorrow morning and make him an offer. He was asking $300 each. We'll see what happens - I'm not sure if I want to pick up one or both, since they seem to be getting rarer and rarer.

The swap is pretty cool though. If anyone in the Chi-town area wants to check it out, here is their website...

you should have got the number for the mata mata, in case the frts dont turn out

Yeah, I'd like the mata mata, but I'd be more interested if it were a pair. I'm much more interested in getting an frt, so even if these don't pan out tomorrow, I might just wait til the next time they come up. I haven't seen this turtle dude I talked to today before, but I got the impression he knew where to get them if I ever wanted some in the future.

choosing between a fly river and mata mata would be so hard..... The only downside to Mata Matas is the size they reach, I don't know off hand how large the Fly Rivers get.

As for the Reptile Swap, awsome show, I was going up there once a month to buy my crickets, till my cockroach colony got out of control, now i'm trying to feed all of them off.

Its probally better for me if i stay away anyway.. I always end up bringing something home lol. Last time i came home with a Giant Day Gecko :)

If you do get the Frt's only get one from what I hear they get aggressive to tank mates including other frt's.... Also be careful buying them if I'm correct none are bred in the US and only a few have been brought in legally. The reason they are getting harder and harder to find is because US Fish and Wildlife is cracking down on them.... Just alittle fyi for you. If possible get paper work on them and recipts...

Yup just check and they are cities II and captive breeding in the US is extremely rare. Most available are wc or wild harvested eggs. They come from Southern New Guinea, southern Irian Jaya and northern Australia.... Be careful I've know people who have bought these and ended up in alot of trouble because of them.... I know Australia is closed to export not sure on the others...

go for mata mata

My understanding of the legality of FRT's is that paperwork is only necessary at the point of export. Indonesia does not allow exportation of wild caught turtles, but farm hatched are exported in limited numbers. Once they are brought in to the country though, private owners are not accountable for the export paperwork, since that would have already been shown before bringing them in to the country.

Oddball explained it well here...
