Looks Mala to me. There is a huge visual difference between the two, curupira is a much rounder fish and more uniformly coloured. As with alot of Hoplias the underjaw profile is a good place to start. Curupira will have 4 patches of pores along each side of the underjaw. Mala's wil have 4 pores. The lines of the jaw also meet on a Mala and run parralel...ish on a curupira. Have a look in the galleries on my wolf site in my signature below. As well as a good search on MFK should find some good examples.

Thanks! I googled hoplias and tryed to see any diffrence but i couldnt find anyone. Search mfk to but didnt find any good pictures. Some looked the same and some didnt. But do the curupira have the same black markings as mala?

I agree. H. Malabaricus. I own two and they look just like this little guy.
Did you buy online? I acquired mine from Aquascapeonline.
