Hi Guys,

I'm new in this forum and wanted to startup a pleco tank.

May I know what is 4ft 120?

I planning to get a tank dimension 3x1.5x1.5 or 3x2x2 or 4x1.5x1.5 or 4x2x2. Which will be better for most pleco?

For filtration, IOUS or canister filter will be better?

Thanks :)

Welcome to MFK. :)

Plecos can be extremely variable in sizes, some species will only grow to 3'' or so whereas others can reach close to 36''. The tank size that you buy will affect what species you can keep, but always get the largest tank you can afford and have space for, as it means that there are a lot more species you are able to keep. In this case I would choose the 4x2x2, which has a volume of 120g. The 2' width of the tank will allow you to keep some larger species of plecos.

Filtration wise, I would use a sump filter if possible, but if not a large volume canister filter with a high turnover rate would be adequate. Plecos produce a lot of wate products and as such contribute heavily to the tank's bioload, so aim for the best filtration you can get.

id go for something 4 or 5ftx2x2.
one of my plecs is about an inch off 2ft and hes in a 4x2x2 and he still looks cramped, so hes got a nice new tank for xmas lol

Depends. If you want little plecos, like hypans, get a littler tank. Larger plecs, like pseudas, will need a larger tank.

Flash,
what are those in the hypans family and those in the pseudas family? Sorry for some noobie questions. I like those not so big in size and colorful/nice pattern types.

L082 = Ancistrini

so none are big monster right?
The largest out of those would be the L024, reaching almost 12'' in length. All of the above could be kept in a 4x2x2.

bro,
for filtration can i use ios? But for ios will it reduce the tank size? Cause the tank will be place at the bottom tier and canister filter cant be use so i've can only think of ios/ious. What you suggest?
