Well, here we go. I'm gonna keep you all updated on the growth of the three baby red eared sliders that I recently acquired. They are all about 2 inches long with nice patterns and colors. Their names are Charlie, Bo and Gio (My brother chose the names). Right now, they are in a twenty gallon long with a lamp and flat slate as a substrate. They have two basking platforms and a floating log.

A few problems I've been having:

1. They aren't too thrilled with the pellets Turtle Shack sent along for me to feed them with. They just don't seem to be eating them. Any idea what they will readily take? Or perhaps why they won't take the pellets?

2. They love to bury themselves under the large pieces of slate. I'm concerned about them getting crushed. I was planning on putting pool filter sand in their tank asap. Will this be ok? any particular reason they hide under the pieces of slate? I mean they actually lift them up and then get stuck under them.

Thanks

pics up soon :)

Turtles will like places to hide. The pool filter or regular play sand should stop them from getting crushed but you may also want to add a few fake plants (with big leaves so they dont try and eat them) so that they can hide and have a place to rest in the water. This will also help getting them to eat. They are probably just stressed out right now and are similar to humans in that they have a loss of appetite when stressed.

Also, do you have the proper UV lighting and how are the temps of the basking spot and water? these may also be reasons they are not eating.

i keep mine at around 80-85 degrees farenhite. try dried shrimp, mine love it. and snakeguy101 is right, they are stressed and it may be a few days before they are comfortable in their new inviroment. fake plants are a good idea. live plants will be eaten and abunch of other stuff that i cant think of right now. any way, good luck with them

Gold fish are a horrible idea. Maybe just to get them eating if they refuse to after a while but otherwise, avoid them at all costs.
