RES not basking

my RES is not basking. it started when i added enough heaters to keep his tank warm at a constant 76f, as the tank is in the garage, before this the water was about 70 and he basked quite a bit. should i lower the temp or ???

Lol, I think you answered your own question. Usually if the water is warm they bask less. How big/old is this RES? You can keep an adults water temp in the low to mid 70's while babies and yearlings should be kept around 78-80 F.

about a 5-6" carapace. perhaps i'll drop it down to 74f and see what happens.

The temp your using now its good dont worry about it, every turt its diferent, actualy much worse would be for it to bask to much
