RES eating frozen cubed blood worms and muscle? Good or bad? I am curious because just feeding him pellets and every now and then guppies seams like a plain diet, he won't eat lettuce, but any other ideas on food for him?

Yeah that's fine. How big is it? I've never had a young slider show any interest in green food, big ones will take it though. Most market seafood type stuff should be OK for him. I would stay away from oily fish like smelt, bluefish, that sort of stuff...it's not great for them and it will really get your tank dirty. Shrimp, mussels, cut fish like tilapia, catfish, flounder etc are all good to give him some variety. Also earthworms/nightcrawlers depending on how big he is, and feeder insects like crickets are good.
So I will add small crickets, blood worms, muscle, shrimp, earthworms,silver sides, and cut fish. Then as he grows I will add veggies. A guy came into the fish store and asked if we wanted a turtle to sell. My co-worker said yes and never asked the size. It is illegal to sell a turtle under 4" shell here. He brought in a 1" turtle. So I took it or he was going to release it. So he now is residing in a 20gl for now then gets a kiddy pool to himself. When he is big enough to sex I might get him a buddy.
Sounds good. They really aren't picky, and the variety will do him well. Just make sure he's getting plenty of UVB light, if possible keep him outside for at least part of the day while it's summer, the direct sun will do wonders for him. Much better than any UV bulb.
Issue is I don't have an outdoor pond yet and all water around me dries up in the summer except the neighbors ponds. We will be putting in a pond probably next spring so I will just fence that off and put him in it for the spring and summer and bring him in for the fall and winter when he gets bigger. How big do you think he should be before being put in a outdoor pond?
