As some of you already know, I started a very small exotics rescue due to the lack of places for unwanted reptiles, amphibians and inverts to go in the area. And it's going very well, I'm able to do a lot of adoptions out of my work which really helps and the rescue is starting to build support and associations with other local shelters, rescues and groups.
However, I'm finding a small but increasing issue with some of the animals I'm contacted about... I can't keep them legally in my current location. Things like hots and crocodilians, that require special housing, permits, licenses, etc. Even once I've gotten my 501c3 status and am officially recognized, still doesn't get me around not being able to keep these animals because obtaining licensing here isn't easy and housing for some of them is just out of the question.
So I'm looking to find rescues, shelters, rehabs and maybe even breeders if needed, that can help me out with these types of animals. I need a place to send them to, otherwise I have to hand them over to the state (which doesn't really end well most of the time). I mean, I don't have to notify the state but 1.) I don't want to place myself in that situation and 2.) really I'm just not set-up for the kind of care that's required for these types of animals in the long run.
So, if you know anyone/anyplace I can get in contact with... would totally appreciate it.
