Hello all,

Recently came across a sale on FB with the guy getting rid of everything he had including his fish. Needless to say I bought everything and the fish for a steal. The oscar he had is about 10.5 inches and is in a 75 gallon with a plecostomus. It's been about 3 days and I haven't seen him eat at all. I went and got some feeders(Yes I know the story about feeders and I never get them) to try and stimulate his predatory sense but he hasn't touched one. So I would like your advice on what I can do to stimulate his appetite, thanks!

wait him out, Oscars are big pouters when things change, he can go 2 or 3 weeks with out eating with out a problem,

what size tank is he in and tank mates?

He's in a 75 gallon with a common pleco

Might as well take those feeders out. If you want to stimulate him with live food get some night crawlers or crickets which dont carry as many risks of parasites. My GT went nearly two months without eating when I got him, your oscar will be fine especially at that size.

I wouldn't be worried after three days. It can go a lot longer than that with no food. Oscars are known to get butt hurt and sulk. He'll eat when's he's hungry enough. Just keep trying to offer him pellets. If he's not eating, throw the pellets out.

It already been said but I'd just wait him out bud, if it gets to 2 weeks without the fella eating start to worry, oscars are notoriously huffy fish when they get moved or there environment changes (adds to there personality if you ask me) I had a tiger Oscar a few years back that would lie on his side and play dead if he got moved, he would just lie there on his side totally lifeless for days, until you would try to remove him then he would go back to normal, it was as if he was playing a game with you, his name was huffy lol

Oscars have such big personalities it's pretty funny to hear about their behavior when they get in a bad mood. Such a shame that one of the most personable and intelligent fish in the hobby is probably one of the top three most abused fish in captivity.
