No they are south american cichlids ...the reason I called it a common is I don't know the scientific name...very much a tropical though gonna need about a 75 to keep it long term
Guy i kno was shutting his tank down due to renovations. Anything i didnt take would have been put down. Breeding pair of tiger oscars, the pike, a jaguar cichlid, 1' pleco, some little catfish. He threw in a Canister filter a 3' light and a heater just so i could setup a 90g for the oscars seperate.
Looks like one of the Crenicichla saxatilis group.
They have a range that covers much of South America.
There are warm water and cool water variants.
Below is one of my wild caught in Uruguay, it can take temps in the 90sF down to around 50'F. and do best with a winter cool down. I keep it in an unheated tank in winter, and in a pond in summer.
