Went to Wal-mart, and saw more GSP's depressed in fresh water, and felt bad for them, and the dragon gobies, wanted to rescue both, but only had room for one....so I picked up the puffer for my fiance.

I drip acclimated him to the same salinity as my puffer. Right now they're sharing a space until my fiance gets a chance to set him up his own(which'll be later this week). He's on the thin side, so I'm hoping to get him fattened up soon!!

3 of the Walmarts here stopped selling fish due to people no longer rescuing them :) The actual statements were " The market has dried up here"

NOW THAT"S TRULY rescuing from walmart.. Most of us (local hobbiests) when we do end up in wally world stop in and when we see someone looking at the fish.. We give our opinion of Walmart housing and selling fihs.. and well some statyed and some walked off. 3 stores in a year.. i don't know did we rescue some fish... Well at least we aren't adding to the problem :D

Just my opinion.

There aren't enough hobbyists in my area. And too many people go in there when I'm not there to set them straight.

Truth is, I was going to buy one anyways, whether I had to get it there (and give it a chance at a really good home, that it wouldn't of) or get it at the petstore, where I know the conditions are better.

My fiance always wants to get the puffers out of wal-mart and bring them home. I knew that his "present" would be better if he knew he was helping him out!

That's why I was able to "rescue" this guy, and not the whole fish section.

What he's trying to say is if you keep "rescuing" fish from a place that abuses/neglects them, they will see that fish are a good seller & stock more of them, removing more from their natural habitat. You aren't helping the situation here. Buy from a shop that takes good care of their fish & you can be sure you are helping the hobby.

You definately should not have added any fish you bought from Walmart in with your healthy fish.

The only reason I did, is because the King of Evil (my little pink con) has attempted to eat every tankmate he's ever had, and HE's currently in time out!!

Our only other tank has a huge crack in the bottom, so that wouldn't have worked....

I know what he's saying though, it's a stigmata every land hermitcrab owner goes through. If you buy one to help it (even though very few stores actually take proper care of them) you're adding to the problem.....even though most of the stores are the problem.

I have moved them to a bigger tank that has enough room for the both of them, and they've been smiling since yesterday evening! They're now in our 75 gallon in a secluded area of the house.

The new guy has been looking better and better for the last couple of days, and he getting his color back so slowly. Our original is a bright gold/green color right now, very, very pretty!

I'm currently feeding them on freeze-dried plankton, and will be buying some more gammarus soon to offer as well......they're fed 2-3 times daily. I don't offer too much food per feeding, since they eat so often, I don't want to kill them with kindness!

A more varied diet is necessary fore their health. Have you seen this?

I've been boycotting Walmart for over 10 years, due to their fish abuse. I haven't even walked thru their doors.

Thanks for the link!!

They're both still pretty small, and I'm not sure what all will actually git in their mouths....should I just start trying to foods on the list and see what they do and do not like?

Local to us we have Walmart, Meijer, Pet Supplies Plus, and the Fish Doctors It's actually easier for me to get to Walmart or Meijer than either pet store.....

There's usually only 5 or 6 each time I go, and this is the first time that they had 4 inchers!! I need to stop taking in fish for a lil while though, seeing as I'm running out of tanks!! lol
