I hadn't seen this auranti for nearly a month and feared that he had been got. It's in a bad way but hopefully it will pull through, i have put it in a small tank that I had spare. I originally had four and moved one to another tank as I now have a pair, I assumed that this one had dissapeared weeks ago. I post this so that potential channa keepers will understand what they are in for. If it survives I will put it with the other spare that I have.

auranti are capable of some pretty harsh damage to each other,in a short period of time aswell.dont worry your not the only auranti keeper to go through this, lol

what happened to him ? its like a zombie! poor fish

This was attacked by the other aurantis in the tank, it was relieved of quite a few scales in the process. Luckily the flesh is not too badly damaged so it may heal - they're quite tough.

Rob, It's in the hospital for the next few weeks (a tiny tank on my bathroom windowsill-lol) I usually manage to spot any channa argy-bargy before it's too late. As you say it's harsh damage.

hi mate
youd be suprised how quick aurantis, can inflict serious damage.like kids you cant watch them all the time, lol.
good luck with it let me know how it goes.

Just an update. The fish is healing nicely, dorsal has fully grown back and the scales are starting to grow back on both sides. I changed the water in the tank this morning but when I came in this afternoon the tank was empty. I know these fish are jumpers and the lid was slightly ajar. I immediately checked the floor - no fish. The tank is on the windowsill directly above the sink. I thought "oh-no!" The plug was out so I unscrewed the u-bend and there it was. So now Its back in the tank with a bottle of shampoo on the lid to weight it down.
