Okay so not a real monster of a fish but I still need some opinions on him. I was picking up a filter from Craigslist and they dude asked if I wanted any of the fish he was getting rid of. I ended up with this fully grown behemoth and some gold tetra (in a 30gal tank with goldfish) and got them into my 75.

I really don't have the room for more of them, and my lfs doesn't have an appropriate setup. He's been with me for a month so far and besides the intake of food(Jesus Christ) he's been ok. He hangs out with the upside-down cats and banjos.

Should I just leave him to it or should I rehome him asap?

I am not sure, what exactly can be the problem with keeping this fish? 75 gal is not too bad for a Synodontis eupterus. What size is it?

He's about 10" currently but my concern is that I can't house more of his own for companionship, unless I'm mistaken and he doesn't need it. I'm also a bit worried he may out compete everyone for food. My ropes do fine with grabbing their frozen foods but my banjos are slow and don't eat until after lights out. The featherfin is fully capable of hoovering every last morsel up even after lights out.
Also between my young rhino pleco and red tailed shark im not sure if I should be worried about aggression. The pleco and shark hate each other but they keep to themselves

Nice looking eupterus and the tank too. Good job.

It doesn't look 10" but I'll trust your word. He needs no companionship. They are solitary in the wild when adults.

Outcompete he can, but only you can be the judge of that. If you put in all he can eat and then some so others get it, he may overeat... but not necessarily. One has to watch. Many look obese that I see but mine get plenty of food and they don't, so I am not sure what exactly decides that.

Most eupterus get along well with tank mates. Some prove nightmarish. Again, IDK why and one has to watch.

Sorry about the wishy-washy advises.

I appreciate the help. For such a common species it's proved a pain to get conclusive info on them which seems to be the nature of the beast. I'll take your advice for now and keep an eye on him. I kept hearing and seeing pictures of eupterus just eating non stop and you see the pics of them bloated up but like you, I haven't actually seen him get like that so it's possible he knows how to pace himself.

I'm grabbing foods from lfs today, I might just feed him on catfish pellets and fresh veggies to fill him up a little before dropping in the frozen foods.

Do you know if yours ever eat ghost shrimp or small fish? I keep ghosts and guppies in there for the ropes. If he's eating them I'll start adding more.

I think it'd rather be unusual for a eupterus to go after live foods but he can do it, especially if he feels he hasn't had his fill. If it fits in its mouth, it can be eaten. I'd say IME and in my readings 90%+ eupterus wouldn't bother small fish. Shrimp may be different. It's real good eating :)

Really? Interesting and rather unexpected to me. What do they do to each other?
