i recently rescued 4 fish from someones tank i met this weekend. he had not fed them much and did not have any filters or air bubbles for them at all for about 6 MONTHS. there was one jewel fish two plecos and a catfish i have not indentified yet.also there was only about 6 inches of water left in the 55 gal tank. i put the plecos and the catfish in one of my tanks but the jewel would get eaten so i put him in 5 gal for now.i didnt know fish could adapt to no air or water movement. has anyone ever heard of this for this for this amount of time?

Fish can live through quite surpising circumstances. Example I have just put a small molly I got from a friend into a 5 gallon tank. It's not much but it was in a small container for near 2 months. No WC's too. I'm not saying this is the right thing to do, but it happened.

Yeah I've seen it done

I rescued my pleco from a goldfish bowl

Hadn't eaten in weeks and the water was completely black

Water was changed maybe a few times and he spent half of his life in there (back when he was maybe 2 in)

Now he's having an amazing life :D

I've seen a pleco nearly the same length as the 10 gallon tank it was in. Couldn't turn around. They only filled the water (with water straight from the tap) when evaporation made the filter stop working/make noises. Never any water changes, just evaporation replacements.

I tried to rescue that fish, but it belonged to a 10 year old and nobody would let me have it.

I really have absolutely no clue how some fish can just... adapt and survive in that.

Good job:) poor fish. I too have rescued fish before it feels good to nurse them back to health. Before and after photo are needed.
