Rescued from LFS need ID please

Ive seen this guy at my lfs for almost a year now and nobody has picked him up so i decided to get him. Only problem is i dont know what kind of gar he is (or even if it is a gar at all ) If price helps i paid $8 for him. Any input would be appreciated.

It looks like a hujeta "gar" (Ctenolucius hujeta). Not a true gar

nice pick up. where are you guys getting these nice fish for $8? how big is it? was $8 the original price or did they discount it to move it, because a year is a long time to have a fish in inventory.

They were selling them for 9-$10 a few months ago at my lfs. What is their normal price?

Its sonly about 3-4" There was no price on the tank and the lady that worked there asked me how much it was i said i dont know and she just gave it to me for $8.

hujeta gar. looks just like mine. they don't get too big though.

Actually since it's not a true gar then calling it a "hujeta gar" is just continuing the ignorance of everyone.

If the fish is not a TRUE GAR then please don't further the confusion by calling it a "something gar" when it fact it's not even a damn gar to begin with.

I've seen them listed as "Hujeta Pike"...or Yellow Fin Pike...is that any more accurate?
