Hello,
I had posted this in another forum on this site and was politley steered to repost my request here.
I am in search for a fish rescue in Florida. I live in Ocala.
Here is what I had posted (I did edit for grammer.)
Hello and thank you for any information.
I have rescued (yesterday afternoon) a very large Pacu from a neighbor that he cannot keep due to relocation to another state (the fish was in a 20 gallon tank on his front porch). The fish (named "Jaws") is currently residing in my spare 55 gallon tank that I set up for him yesterday. He cannot turn around without bumping either his tail or nose on the glass. I cannot afford to purchase another tank nor do I have the room.
My husband graciously requested that I not fall in love with this fish and to go on line to find a fish rescue resource. I found this site after much surfing for "aquarium fish rescue" on www.dogpile.com.
I already have 2 other 55 gallon tanks and a 20 set up for my other fish (that will never get as large as Jaws) so it's not like I just took him on a whim without aquarium experience. I took him because I truly believed that my spare 55 tank could house him comfortably with hopes of adding another pacu for him for company. He lives with 2 fairly large plecs as well that can go with him if he can find a new home.
I cannot offer my 55 gallon tank that Jaws is now in as it is my spare during hurricanes. (Yes, I said spare... I am fortunate enough to have a home with a basement and when the hurricanes get too close I move myself, 6 ferrets, a 24 year old african grey parrot, a pit bull and my fish down to the basement!) Some of my fish I have had for over 10 years and they are considered a part of my family.
I would like to find Jaws a home where he can swim with out bumping the glass to turn around. He seems very personable as he will follow me around his tank as I move about and he seems to take relocation with stride as his appetite was strong with in hours of being in his new tank.
Please, any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
