I always talk about how i dont rescue RES because they are so common and they arent native to our islands but are thriving in our streams and ponds however today my uncle came across a RES who is obviously in need of help as its upper lip is chipped...yes i said it CHIPPED, even worse its nostrils look like the have been scraped so bad that its to the cartilidge and bone...so i plan on posting a few flyers in the townhouse complex where he lives so that the owners can have their pet back but i will be returning him with a hand full of printouts and a mouth full of info on caring and better housing(security) and such for RES. I assume the damage is not from neglect of health or diet but merely from the falls the poor guy has taken from the tank to the outside parkinglot. if no one claims him with in the week i will continue to care for him until at leats 90% healed then adopt out with my same handouts i give for RES care...ill post flicks if i find my camera or may resort to using the cell phone camera...just thought id share that story because i have been told i have got no heart for the RES...not by anyone on this site just people i have dealt with in the past but this is my good deed for the RES that populate our stream as i fear even with education his chances of being released is still 50%.

Good job vice with the rescue. This poor turtle can't help that he is the result of improper reptile care. I hope he survives his injury. The wound sounds pretty bad. Definitely post some pics if you can. You might have to put the turtle on some sort of antibiotics.

true, if you have them wandering around as invasives, it could be one of those. It's a shame that it happens. Good job on picking it up though.

looks like dog or cat to me..more than "neglect"

i think its a tank escape with no hood on it...i doubt cats and dogs he has no puncture marks or scrathes...i doubt pond because it was found in a townhouse complex...more then likely an outdoor tank with no hood and the heavy rains we have had the past couple days filled it high enough for the lil guy to get out ...so ya ill try to post flicks.and im getting antibiotics from the vet i work with in the am...

sorry took me so long i was trying to get my hands on a better camera but i couldnt and this is the best shot i could get with my phone so hopefully you can see the enlarged nostrils and its really like that because it is scraped so much that the cartilidge bone structure is exposed...he is on antibiotics and high calcium diet per the vet i work with...
