Have you ever heard of someone who buys a fish due to the sudden interest and temptation and the interest changes like seasons right away? One of my mother's friend's son, a 13 year old teenager baught a baby Giant Snakehead / Channa Micropeltes. And then changed his mind and started saying he hates the fish and wants it gone as he hits the little plastic tank that he kept it in making the poor little fish jump from fear, the wise father said let it be given to someone who wants it. The little freshwater Great White Shark has now been moved into a 3 feet tank with their little Asian Arowana, bigger than the Snakehead though.

But then the little Giant owns the poor Asian Aro, and this kid who hates the Snakehead hits against the tank again to show his hatred, poor little Snakehead jumps again in shock...and he does it over and over...it has been about 2 weeks or so since I heard this from my sister who was there. I told my sister to bring it here the next time she goes there, and I just heard about this story again from my mother, she also told me the 13 year old teenager cannot bear the little Snakehead's aggressiveness as well...hmm luckily he didn't have an adult. I told her to bring the poor little Snakehead to me, I would give it to one of the local LFS's or take care of it until it's big enough to be released in the wild...but then with excessive fishing, it wouldn't be a wise decision if I am to ensure the fish's long life safety.

So I'm thinking I might just hand it over to the nearest LFS. To have a pair of Giant Snakeheads have been my ultimate dream monster fish as they're my most favourite. But not today...it's a fish that deserves respect and space and I cannot do that now being in an apartment with my family. Kids that have no idea what they're buying and just buy it for its monstrous and aggressive popularity always end up releasing or having it dead...or like the story of this 13 year old teenager.:(

Can't wait to get that poor little Monster! and I'll take pictures and post here for you guys when it has arrived.

nice. I do have to confess i did have a micro before. I bought it coz i never really saw them all that much and i have ALWAYS wanted one ever since i saw rayman's 2 footer awhile back. Well i started seeeing them more and more then newer snakeheads started popping up that i haven't seen. Like my auranti. So i traded in my micro to make room for rarer species of channa. Know i have a 2 stewartii 's and 2 auranti's. WOOOT

I blame the parents for his behavior, he's 13yr old and doesn't have a clue. I took / take responsibility for my kids knowing how to properly treat all animals. This may sound funny, but this kid (and the parents) needs some therapy fast before he gets older and beleives this action is ok.

Maybe put the kid in a tank and beat on the tank for a while :headbang2 .

Where 'bouts do you live? Maybe a local MFKer can adopt it and give it better treatment than a lsf.

Dedication to the fish is first and foremost the priority.

I have rescued and re-house loads of reds in my time of keeping them. Even in the U.K were these fish are legal I really think there should be some form of licensing on them people get hold of them as a Macho thing a bit like a pit bull and like a pit bull some people have a love for that animal and the knowledge of its requirements. I blame the LFS as much as every one ells. Dr Joe once again has a point LFS on a hole look to make money out of you and the fish and this is a specialist fish that will grow up to be one of the top predators in the fish world as long as you live some where this fish is legal try and pass it on to some one who can actually give the fish what it requires for life not just a shot term fix.
