so I have a 175 tall that sprang a leak. I've resealed tanks much smaller in the past. my question is, is there any advantage to putting an additional seal on top of the seal in the corners? I didn't pull the tank entirely apart, just removed the seal. the seal I put in is about a 1/4" on both sides of the corners. GE1 is what I used. I know theres better but I wasn't using it to hold the tank together.

The bond between old silicone and newly applied silicone will never be as strong as the bond between new silicone and a clean surface.

Its generally recommended to remove all existing silicone prior to applying new.

No their isn't. Since the silicone wont adhere properly you wont get a proper seal, water will make its way into those imperfections in the bond and deteriorate the silicone between the "layers." Realistically the interior silicone's function is only to keep the water away from the structural silicone that's holding the panels together in order to do this the seal between the silicone and the panels needs to be as perfect as possible, or you risk a blow out. On a separate note, kind of, you'll want to keep an eye on the junction between the panels where the leak is, since water made it out of the tank the structural silicone has at least one channel all the way through.

I decided to remove the corner seal that I thought was to small and reapplied the silicone. water test is scheduled for this weekend.
