resealing 150g, bead width?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm looking for this info as well.:)

when I did a 135 I put it 1/4" out from the edges. I masked it with tape, put the bead down, spread it with my finger, then removed the tape while the silicone was still wet. It looked very clean.

It's difficult to describe the bead width because it has height too. Smoothing it with a wet finger is best (hope your not allergic to silicone) A little practice and try to duplicate what rallysman said.

what? i dont understand how its so hard to say what size bead to lay down. 1/4"? 3/8"? etc... i just want to make it as easy as possible, to small a bead PRIOR to smoothing and i'll have to add more, which could become messy. too big a bead and i will have too much, and again messy. ive worked with silicone b4 but never with something that im going to spend hours looking at daily so i just want it to look good. the silicone i scraped out went a full 1/2" out from the corners and that seemed excessive.

I think a half inch is good.:) Exessive is 150 gallons leaking fast or slow while you are not home... :)

Do a couple of tests on the bottom, if you do happen to get too much on there, the tape will take care of it for you.

Sorry, didn't know you were experienced, I thought it would be easier to just do a practice run. A 1/2" bead should be enough to join th two panels and give a 1/4" area on each side. Have everything laid out and ready to use...silicone tubes cut and ready, rags, razor blades, cleaner, helper, rags. Once you start there's no stopping  . And women say we're affraid of commitment :screwy: Hah.

Like rallysman said start on the bottom, it's easier to hide :D.
