I have just stripped all the sealant off, cleaned up well and masking taped and resealed it.everything went good until i smothed over the bottoms sealant to make it look nice and it came out really ugly.I was planning to go bare bottom with this tank but it just looks hideous.I know sealant doesn't bond to old dry sealant so my question is,can I just add another prayer on top of it just to make it look good or would it just be in my best interest to just scrape the sides and bottom off and redo the whole thing?

Another layer won't help it probly just fall off eventually. U could always redo the tank which sucks but if u want it to look nice that's what u gotta do

Come to think about it I could just cover it up with a nice sand bed.the bare bottom actually wouldn't look to well with a woodstand floor anyways if it doesn't leak and stays true during a water test I might just save the bare bottom idea for a future bigger tank with a black stand.the aesthetics doesn't matter as long as there was a good seal job, correct?

As long as it's a good seal job and doesn't leak, you should be fine. In the future, try to tool the fresh silicone within a few minutes of applying it because it starts to skin over quickly.

How long should I leave it filled after it fully bonds to consider it "safe" to proceed in setting up and decorating? I resealed a 30 gallon hex and left it outside when the weather was nice for a week but now its reaching 100 degrees with a brutal Arizona sun and I'm sure leaving this tank filled in the sun with heat it would have a negative effect.any suggestions on the testing its new sealed stability? A little history on the tank.I got it used off Craigslist.it held water and didn't leak,I just resealed it for peace of mind.

A resealed tank should sit for atleast 2 weeks but I've learned that it should sit for 3-4 before filling it to test it. I resealed a tank and let it sit for a week and now after 2 years I'm gonna be resealing it again.

Oh my.well I might as well scrape it all off and start again if its gonna have to sit around dry for that long.should I start the scraping now while the sealant isn't fully bonded as I resealed it around 10 pmish lastnight?

I would let it dry so it doesn't make a mess. U can probly redo it Saturday. It sucks it has to sit so long but in the end the reseal will last much longer
