this is my first thread. hello! I've been a big fish keeper for a while, just never joined a forum, anyways just got this 220 gallon glass tank with canopy, stand, sump, pump, ect for 400 bucks. some tell me im crazy and others say go for it. i plan to reseal and replace the upper frame and glass supports. whats your opinions and any tips or suggestions....thanxs. Seller said the tank doesnt leak, but the silicone job just looked crummy and it needed the supports put in....here a link to a short video of the new(used tank).

Cute kid.

Looks like someone removed the center glass brace - DUMB!

Whatever you do, do not listen to anyone who tells you to dissassemble the tank to reseal it. OR anyone who tells you to get the silicone out from between the glass. It is NOT necessary to do that to reseal the tank.

All you have to do is remove the silicone inside the tank, clean the glass with distilled white vinegar and water, dry the tank out, apply new silicone.

Distilled white vinegar will break down hard water spots and is basically acetic acid, just like the same stuff in silicone. It dissipates and washes away easily.

A friend and I resealed 8 tanks in the last week. I find leakers and refurbish them.

welcome!!!!

yep thats what i have been hearing. except use acetone to prep the surface. i was told to look for air bubbles in the glass seams and they look 0k. its 1/2 inch glass and weighs a ton. yes thats why i got the tank so cheap the center braces were removed or broken or something? i have some the guy gave me that are 1/4 inch but was told go with same size as tank glass...

Nolapete,

i am also thinking about resealing a 220. were any of the 8 tanks large aquariums and in your experience to the seals hold? I am a little nervous about resealing.
