This is what I summed up, please correct me if i'm wrong.

-straight razor and shave off every bit of silicone inside the tank

-use acetone to get the old silicone off

-reseal the tank with GE windows & doors I and let dry for 24 days

Did i get acetone and GE silicone I right? No problems using those?

Yes remove silicone from all surfaces. You can not reseal just one area. Use several razor blades to remove 99.99999% of the silicone and then use the acetone to remove any remaining silicone and any oily residue. And then reseal with the silicone of your choice. GE1 works fine and despite what you may read on the net i have used GE2 in black several times and it works great as well.

sounds like your good on cleaning it, just try not to cut into the silicone 'between' the panes of glass on your tank.......thats the strengh...
my only suggestion....and it's worth it
Mask it all in with painters tape, silicone it, smooth it out with your finger, I can do a great job with my finger, then pull the tape. for a 'pro' looking from factory reaseal on it.

that's what I did, I'm still i'mpressed by my straight lines......

oh 24 days drying on the type I ge? this is what I used and I let it dry 1 week and that was probably overkill.

to clean the silicone i use http://www.arichard.com/en/PRODUITS_DESC.asp?ID=365843 and a exacto knife

24 hours is a bit short,at least 3 ays prefereably a week.
The key is getting the glass clean, scrape it till youre sure its spotless then do it again.

Drying time depends on air temperature and the thickness of the silicone. 24 hours isn't long enough unless it's 90 degrees and the silicone bead is small.

oh! sorry guys that was a typo. I meant 24 hours, but I will let it cure for a week instead. thanks for the correction.

I think your on the right track. A couple of tips get a bunch of plastic spoons and use backs of them to smooth your beads. Get some cardboard boxes and practice doing your sealing on them so you get it right before you do your tank. I don't think you need to wait 24 days maybe more like a week.

Update:

I went to buy GE silicone today, I got the GE Silicone Windows & doors I, but is WHITE the right color? They also had TRANSPARENT/CLEAR. I'm not sure which color to use. What is the standard color that all aquariums have? Clear or White?
