How can I go about resealing my tank. My main seals are good its just the extra that's flaking off. Like what use to be air bubble in it. Cuz I guess over time from me whipping down the tank the thin stuff kinda came off. Thanks. Also this is a 240g tank

It would help to have a pic of what youre describing so we can give specific help. What I can say is you need to remove all old silicone from the area you are resealing since new silicone doesnt bond to cured silicone as well as it does glass. And use GE silicone 1. Its the type with no additives (like mildew resist, etc) so there's nothing harmful to leech into the water once it cures.

Hello; If a tank is not leaking I leave it alone. A reseal job is not a guranteed fix and to my way of thinking is only worth doing when a leak already exists. Good luck

So the "spread" on the inside oh the tank is okay if its coming off or breaking up?

Hello; Not exactly sure what you mean but will guess that you are talking about the seam of silicone hat protrudes into the inside of a tank where the glass panes meet. While it is not "good " that this seam is comming apart, is is not an issue untill the tanks leaks.

From reading your initial posts, may I gather than you are scrubbing this inner silicone seam when cleaning the tank? If so it may be that you are creating the problem. Silicone is tough in many aspects but is somewhat soft and can be physically damaged. It does not dry out like the first sealants that came on tanks. It handles temperature well.
If you are scrubbing the seams when cleaning the tank for a better look, it is possible that eventually you will degrade the seam and have a leak. A new seam from a reseal will not hold up to this any better in my opinion. I tend to leave the seams alone when cleaning a tanks glass surface. Left alone the silicone seals on tanks have been known to hold water for decades.
Good luck

if you mean the inner seal that is visible from the inside of the tank is flaking off, its 50 50. the seal done before this is the most important.

The 2nd seal is to protect the 1st and help bond the glass a little. theres no requirement to strip the inside seal and reseal it but I always reseal if I see this seal coming off. once its gone a leak normally will come soon after.

Removing it with a razor carefully not getting the inside and resealing it takes 1 hour and is pretty safe.

i agree with squirt if it is starting to flake off you are better safe then sarry to replace the inner seal just take a razer blade and cut the inner seal away and the run a new bead around the whole tank it is better to replace then to have to clean up and have fish every wear in your house because a seam let loose. trust me woak up one morning because my 125 in my liveing room broke and flooded it ya it is not fun.
