Resealing tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How hard is it to reseal a whole tank? Found a 220 for good deal that needs resealed. Just never done it before. Can’t find any info on it on here. Thanks in advance!
It's not hard at all,the important thing is to remove all of the old silicone from inside of the tank as the new silicone will not adhere to it.I resealed my 265 a few years ago after it sprung a leak.

Cool. I was nervous on getting it or not as I’ve never resealed one. I will go ahead and try it. And tips besides remove all of the old?
Get yourself a good scraper and utlilty knife to cut out the silicone.I forgot the name of the one that I used but I will post a photo of it tomorrow after I get home. Also, check out King of DIY's,tutorial on youtube.

I felt a lot more confident in taking on the project for the first time after watching it.The silicone is a GE brand which comes in a culking tube.I don't seem to recall the number on the label though. You can get it at Home Depot where it will be much cheaper than what you'd pay for the same amount at a lfs.

YouTube has a few vids on aquarium revealing. I have only sealed small aquariums but wasn't that difficult just take your time with everything.

Here is the one that I have.It is good for cutting the silicone as well as scraping off the bits of residue that is missed from the cutting motion.I went through a few razor blades lol.
