Technically they did catch it, and its alive, its on a hook trying to get away. What you mean is they didnt keep it alive and toss it in a tank.

they should do that sometime!

earlier this year i'm pretty sure they caught one on film as well. I remember seeing the footage. What they DO need to catch is a colossal squid. Much bigger than a giant squid and i don't think they've ever caught one on film before. They have rotating hooks on they tenticles that slice up their pray as they travel down the tenticles to their mouth. Now that is bad ass

oops i was wrong they only took fotos of it. anyways check out these rotating hooks the colossal squids have

From what I read in the new yorker, they did a live gian tsquid. A tiny baby one, didn't manage to keep the squid alive:(. Their plan was to try and catch a baby and raise the squid to adulthood.

I would love to see giant squid in a public aquarium.

During the 1960's the US navy had a project to attempt to catch larvae of the colossal and giant squid at the bottom of the mariana trench. Don't think they came back with anything tho

Gee, only took 3 yrs to catch and kill a possible endangered species,,,must be a record. :(

Probably made an aphrodisiac out of it...like everything else.

That's the kind of thing that should be studied in it's own habitat...studying it in a tank just isn't the same.

Gee, it's a long ways down when I get up on this soap box :D .
