Temptation is surely the bane of our hobby, does anyone have inclinations to change their stock but can't due to committing to their existing set-up?

I'd love to do angels in my 90g corner, been niggling away at me for ages since I used to have a gorgeous female angel years ago when I was 16; but totally can't do it just now due to my blood parrot and barb assortment :(

Could easily move the barbs to other tanks, but my BP is pretty much a set feature in my living room now, so I guess I'll have to put the angel aspirations at the back of my head for the foreseeable future!

I had a 13" Tiger Oscar that I raised from a 3" baby in a 55g and then a 210g. Probably the most beautiful Oscar I have ever owned. Then I got the temptation. I rehomed the Oscar to a very capable aquarist and quite over nite changed the 210g into an African rift lake tank. I had almost every Malawi and compatable community cichlid there was at one time in that tank and in great numbers....to "quell agression"....talk about regret. I missed my Oscar.....but more than that, I missed the relative peace and calm of a few big fish I had a connection with. The Rift Lake tank was breath taking, center of the room and the life of the party....but I grew to hate all those little sniveling, bickering, constantly moving fish.
The point is, and I am certainly not trying to discourage someone from change and growth, but a lot can be said for the familiar. If you want to raise Angels then raise some Angels. One Angles back when you were young isn't going to be the same, and you know this, as the required several you will need. Angels are little snippy, cantankerous cichlids that just happen to be beautiful.
I would advise, for what little it's worth, try them out in a separate tank. Don't make a huge adjustment in your regimen and stock just to have a species you may or may not hate..lol. It sounds like you are attached to the fish you have now....and from my experiences, seeing it through is a lot more fulfilling then trying out a bunch of different species and potentially getting frustrated out of the hobby. That happened with me and Discus...and the African Rift cichlids....just to much drama.
So thats my $.02....again, please don't think I am trying to discourage you from growth in the hobby....I'm just saying don't be like me and just jump, both feet in.

lol don't worry, I'm not changing anything; it was more a point of discussion that regularly comes up in threads lol. Sorry to hear about your Oscar :(

Haha maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to get another tank ahah

I fight the temptation all the time. And it doesn't help that my husband is an enabler when it comes to buying more fish lol. But I am committed to my existing setups and love all my tanks right now. Occasionally I'll make small adjustments here and there.

I'm fighting the temptation right now. Been wanting a datnoid for years and finally I find one on here for a really good price. Problem is I only have 1 big tank and that has my beloved exodons in it. I don't want to get rid of them and I also don't want the poor little datnoid to be killed by the exodons. I need to stop looking.

I'm pretty happy with all of my set ups. But if I wasn't I think the thought of some clown stuffing my rd into a 55 with several other fish would stop me from swapping what I have.
Or the thought of someone using my convict or barbs are punching bag fish for some psycho aggressive fish....
They're best keep with me.
Don't get me wrong, I have swapped out entire stocks before but I think I've learned a lot since then. Also, the stock in question, I wasn't happy with. However, like I said, I'm pretty happy with what I've had the last few years.

My temptation is to have a 300gallons+ planted discus tank. I had a 75 with that setup. Always just seemed it needed to be bigger. But of course my large setup is pbass. An I dont regret it at all. Just still want a large planted discus tank.
