Hello all,
I'm planning out my aquarium again. For those of you who don't know, I had a lot of fish die in my last move. Things got bad and then got worse. That having been said, I have an empty 125g tank that will be home to a tinfoil barb and pleco that did make it down to the new house. There's a chance they'll get pawned off due to timing and care but I'm not sure right now. At the moment, I'm planning so I don't have the same problems as before and also have tankmates that my family will enjoy.
Biggest factors: (1) Might move again in 2 years or so (2) Tank has no water in it and hasn't for about 3 months now (3) I'm in the process of finishing the stand, beginning the canopy, and will also have built a sump for the aquarium before I add water again (4) Might start cycling over Christmas holiday or this summer (May have to wait because the breaker flips and the box has to be updated to make that problem go away for that room's outlets)
I don't want a planted tank. My wife likes fake plants and I like driftwood and rocks. We have a nice big center piece. There are different pieces around it but that's what is in the center. We're going to invest in LED dual beams. We think we can get the best look with those. The price seems right too. We're going to put the heater in the sump and build an overflow with a screen. I hope this is drawing a good enough picture of what we have to make this happen.
The fish we think we want (Need your help figuring out if this will work):
Tinfoil barb (already have him, why not)
Pleco (already have him, why not)
1*Starry Night Cichlid - Bleekeri Tilapia?
1*Clown Loach
1*Texas Cichlid
2*Fire Eel
2*Frontosa
2*Red Terror
2*Chocolate Cichlid
2*Blue Dolphin
Rainbow fish
Giant Gourami
Blood Parrot
We went ahead and denoted our first choices and our second choices. We like the others too but we're not looking to overstock and think maybe a little contrast would go further than a lot of contrast. This is part of the reason for the thread.
The alternative to any of the above would be saltwater. My wife loves saltwater colors. I think cowfish are cool. I wish frogfish were a community fish! I haven't done saltwater before and I'm not sure I'll be successful. I feel like I could get freshwater up and running quicker with less of a hassle because I've done it before and even have a 29 running right now. It's a easy habit for me?
Please let us know if a) I should wait till I move, although, it'll be 20 miles instead of 200mi. at least a year and a half from today, and b) If our first choice will work or any of our picks will go together in a 125.
Thanks.
