I'm now running an Eheim pro 2, but I have a Rena Filstar xp for 75 to 100 gallon. Stopped using it 3 to 4 months ago. I washed everything out really well, water only, and dried it before putting it away. I have the three different grades of sponges, the star balls, and ceramic figure 8 things in the large media box. Was thinking of boiling everything before restarting it. Any input would be great. Selling it to a friend to replace whisper gravity filter. Don't want to kill all of her fish!

As long as the tank that filter was on didn't have sick or diseased fish on it, you should be fine to sell it since you cleaned the media and dried it before storing it.

You can always open the filter and give it the sniff test and if it's not stinky, sell it!

It should be perfectly fine. When in doubt use a 1/10 bleach and water solution to clean it and rinse it really well. I would check the seals though and make sure they didn't dry out after not being in use.

Jay, it was I that posted the same comment 3 times in a row, for some reason my 1st post wasn't showing up.
