I have a rainbow cichlid that eats it own ****. Its not full grown its about 1.5-2 inches. None of my other fish do this and i was wondering if this behavior was normal or do i have a retarded fish. I know there said to eat algae so maybe its eatting it for the algae in its poo?

Sometime there's a lot of uneaten food in their poop.
They filter out the food & the poop will exit through their gills.
I notice my runts doing that all the time, since they can't compete for food as well as the bigger bros/sisters.
Same reason dogs like to chow on cat crap.
To fish & dogs, they eat poop like we eat hot dogs/wieners or spam.
We know the crap that's in in, but we still eat it.
